April 1
Well, April is here and with it, hopefully a last blast of wintery weather! Nature's April Fool's trick on us! Easter weekend was beautiful which I'm sure everyone was glad for.
Inside the greenhouses are filling up with hanging baskets, planters and pots! Pansies are in full bloom ready to brighten up the outdoors. Is it ok to put them out now? Absolutely! Unfortunately the cold wind and bit of snow we are getting will break off the blooms and they will look tough for a few days so if you can place them in a sheltered spot until the biting wind has let up, it would be best for them. Don't worry about the cold. Pansies don't mind it.
Also if you bought some primula or other Easter flowers such as tulip, hydrangea or daffodils, enjoy them indoors until the ground warms up, then pick a suitable spot in your gardens and transplant them outside! If your hydrangea is blue, the soil will need to be amended with Aluminum Sulphate otherwise the blooms will revert back to their original color.
Here are a few pictures of what's growing.
