Kittens!

Here are a few pics of our new batch of kittens.
We have two white/calicos and a striped tabby.
They are adorable and starting on solid food. In a week or so, they will be ready for a new home. We always give them away so if you are looking for a kitten, call us. 519-565-2122
Here are some pics from the greenhouse. These are Morning Glories.
There are geraniums, dahlias, black eyed susan vines, petunias and a dark leaf ivy.

Time to plant!

Well, the warmth has arrived! At least for today...what a gorgeous Sunday! Hope you all had a good day enjoying the outdoors with family and friends. We have been busy growing and refreshing the benches with new plants. Incredibly a few plant types are just about gone in spite of the cool weather. We still have lots of geraniums, impatiens, and petunias, the old standards plus lots of other assorted plants. Kevin tried a bunch of new foliage plants this year which are very interesting. One is called Shrimp plant and actually gets yellow spiked flowers on top of the stalks. There are patio pots and large geraniums, some window boxes, perennials, seed potatoes and seeds. We're still open this week from 8-8 Monday to Friday and Saturday from 8-5. Beginning in June, we're Mon-Thurs. and Sat. 8-5 and Friday 8-8. Closed Sunday. We will probably be open on June 1, a week from today as long as the weather is looking good. Give us a call before you come out. Happy Planting!

Spillers, Thrillers and Fillers

We are introducing a new idea...Thrillers, Fillers and Spillers. Any guesses what this is all about? I'm sure you can come up with some ideas. :) Thrillers are the plants that "Wow" you, Fillers are plants that fill in around the Thrillers, Spillers are plants that "spill" over the sides of your pots. We have one whole bench with "spillers", one bench with Thrillers and Fillers and one bench with all of them in foliage. Look for the signs when you come in. Most of the bedding plants are a nice size. Earlier we were concerned with how small plants were but now we realize for us it is a blessing in disguise due to the late season. Once it warms up, the smaller plants will be nice and big. Hope you have a great long weekend with family, friends, your garden or out and about. Maybe we'll see you at our place! ;)

We still have pansies!

We brought in a bunch of wrought iron shepherd hooks, rings, bird feeder hangers and some garden art which is placed in this area just outside the front doors.
It's perfect pansy weather! They can go outside now!
Our pansy pots are on sale for $5.oo....
ovals, rounds and square.
These are our pansies in paks of 4. There are mixed flats as well as straight colours. You can mix and match them in a flat to make an assortment.
Here are some new planter boxes that we have. A 10" pot fits perfectly inside so I just popped a
pansy pot inside to show what they look
like with flowers in them. There's a trellis attached that is approx. 4 ft. high.

Where did summer go?

Temperatures are a little more spring like but I do miss the warmth. Our tulips will last a little longer this way. My uncle and aunt who live up on the
Ontario/Manitoba border received a foot of snow last week. Thankfully we didn't get that little surprise!
Thanks to all who came out for our openhouse this past weekend despite the rain and cool temperatures. We had a slow start Saturday morning but by afternoon it was busy. Hope you all had a good weekend perhaps even working outside. These are my double tulips blooming cheerfully in my back flower garden.

Huron Tourism Development Award

This award was initiated by the Blyth Festival 15 years ago in order to recognize a tourism related business or organization that shows leadership and creativity in and for local businesses.
Our business received this prestigious award for 2008! Pictured here is Carol with the award and the bottom picture is Carol and Liz Ihrig from Hessenland Country Inn who presented the award as last years recipient. We are all very honoured by this award but most of the credit goes to Carol. She is the one who gives her time and support in many ways to the community around us. She is an incredible, energetic lady who is forever optimistic, full of ideas and genuinely enjoys being with people. I am proud to work for and with her.
