Now is the time to pour over those gardening magazines, seed catalogues and perennial plant books from the library! When the weather is dull and we can't be outside, we might as well dream of spring! We would like to hear from you if you are looking for a particular vegetable, herb or flower. Perhaps we will still have time to start that plant for you. Planting time

This week and last week we've been planting pansies. We'll be planting them for awhile because they are planted as singles in 4" pots as well as mutliples in hanging baskets, ovals and square pots. The plants in this picture are singles in a 4" pot. Planting has been going fairly smoothly considering the cold snap we're having. The greenhouse is a fairly nice environment to be in but can be cool at times. We've been using lots of solid fuel this week! It takes Kevin a little longer to move snow, pots and soil around due to fuel lines freezing up and equipment being cold. We will definitely welcome the warmer, milder weather when it comes.

Walking out of the winter weather

Lace up your walking shoes and come walk at Huron Ridge! We invite you to come Tuesdays and Fridays from 10-4 to walk our sidewalks.

This begins in January and carries through until the end of March. You can enjoy the fragrance of flowering primula and be invigorated as you watch spring begin to grow in the greenhouse. Every week there are changes as pots and hanging basket are planted and plants are seeded.

There's no charge, we view this as a way to give back to our community.

A New Year is here!

Hello! I trust you had a lovely holiday. Some of you are likely glad to be getting back into routine on this Monday morning. I sent my kids off to school with a twinge of regret as I do love having them around. Some might find that weird but it's true! It will be good for them to hit the books again and exercise their brains. :)

We layed out some new after school rules last night so we'll see how the week goes. Anyway, on to other things.

Our latest crop, primula, is beginning to bloom and brighten up the dull, grey benches. It is quite a picture when they are blooming vivaciously. The first plants will be heading to Ontario Flower Growers today and could show up in grocery stores, flower shops or a corner variety store. We sell them for $1.99, a nice little pick me up for someone and the bonus is they can be planted outside in the spring! They overwinter in most areas coming back year after year. The yellow ones smell wonderful too!
